Information on requirements to practise

The electroneurodiagnostic professions of electroencephalography (EEG) and electromyography (EMG) are regulated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons in each province and territory. Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons require that these technologists be members of the relevant national professional association, the Association of Electromyography Technologists of Canada (AETC) or the Canadian Association of Electroneurophysiology Technologists (CAET), and successfully complete the relevant registration examination.

Information on assessment of qualifications

The registrars of CBRET and BRETC can review qualifications of foreign-trained electroneurophysiology, EEG, and EMG technologists prior to their arrival in Canada and advise them on whether they meet the prerequisites for the registration examination.

You may also contact an evaluation service and consult our Fact Sheet No. 2, "Assessment and recognition of credentials for the purpose of employment in Canada." Although the evaluation services offer expert advice on how qualifications obtained abroad compare with credentials obtained in a Canadian province or territory, the evaluation is advisory only and does not guarantee recognition of your qualifications for employment or certification purposes in Canada. Please note that they charge a fee for their services.
