Information on requirements to practise
The practice of the medical profession is regulated in Canada. This means that the requirements to practise are set by each provincial and territorial medical regulatory authority. If you know where you intend to settle and work in Canada, you may contact the appropriate provincial/territorial medical regulatory authority (see list below) for assistance.
Information on assessment of qualifications
International medical graduates (IMGs) can obtain information on steps to obtaining a licence to practise medicine on the Medical Council of Canada Web site. The Web site describes the overall process of obtaining a license to practice, including steps IMGs can take before arriving in Canada.
Information on assessment for immigration purposes, under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is an immigration program administered by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), the department responsible for immigration to Canada.
The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) has been designated by CIC to provide an "Educational Credential Assessment" (ECA).
It is important to note that NOC code 3112 is not on the eligible occupations list that takes effect on May 4, so this will only affect those applying under the PhD stream or with a qualifying job offer based on this NOC code.
