Information on requirements to practise

The profession of chiropractic is regulated in Canada. This means that, by law, no one can practise the profession of chiropractic without a licence. It is illegal to practise the profession or use the title of chiropractor without being licensed as a full member in a provincial or territorial regulatory body.

Provincial and territorial regulatory bodies of chiropractic are responsible for setting the standards for entry into the profession and for issuing licences to those who meet established standards of qualifications and practice. Once you know where you will settle and work, you should contact the appropriate regulatory body for information on licensing procedures (see list below).

Information on assessment of qualifications

Foreign-trained chiropractors should contact the provincial or territorial regulatory bodies of chiropractic for information on assessment procedures prior to their arrival in Canada.

If you are not planning to practise as a chiropractor, and simply need a comparative assessment of your academic qualifications, consult our Fact Sheet no 2, which has been compiled to help individuals learn more about how to obtain an assessment of their qualifications for employment purposes in Canada. We draw to your attention the list of evaluation services in question 4 of this fact sheet. You may contact any of them for expert advice on how qualifications obtained abroad compare with credentials obtained in Canada. Please note that these assessments are advisory only and do not guarantee recognition of your qualifications for the purpose of employment or licensure in Canada.
